I recently celebrated a (rather big) milestone birthday and knew I wanted to plan a trip to some special place . . . well-outside Chicago city limits. A friend tipped me off to this fantastic “pink” house that had recently been built in Sayulita, and it turned out to be the perfect place to host a celebratory getaway with girlfriends!
Casa Rosada is tucked into the lush hills of Sayulita, a surfers’ haven full of life, culture, and over 340 sunny days a year.
Just a 5-minute walk from town, this incredible pink palace offers the best of both worlds: the privacy of a luxe vacation home, paired with the staff and services of a boutique hotel. Designed by internationally renowned interior designer Summer Thornton, it’s a true one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
THE LAYOUT
No detail was overlooked when mapping out the floor plan of this house. From the moment you walk through the arched pink gate into the courtyard, you gaze straight through the living room to the infinity pool and then to the ocean, stretching into the horizon. It is the most spectacular view at any time of the day, but especially at sunset
THE OUTDOOR SPACES
Nothing screams vacation like a laid-back lounge setup, and Casa Rosada nails it. Let’s start at the top: The rooftop deck became our sanctuary. We booked a private yoga instructor one morning, and as we held Warrior 2, a whale’s tail flicked up in the distance. The rooftop also doubles as a massage terrace, and the breezy hammocks up there are the best place to unwind at sunset.
THE POOL DECK
Pool lounging here is an art form. From classic loungers to oversized doubles, the deck is styled in the happiest palette of rosy pinks and dusty greens. The colors perfectly complement the pink-tinged sunsets and green palm trees!
THE BEDROOMS
Each bedroom is its own little retreat, with signature “plant moments” that blur the line between indoors and out. In the Sunset Room, bougainvillea surrounds a cantilevered tub to offer a wildly romantic floral scene. The Pom Pom Room overlooks two-story palms and a massive window box bursting with greenery. The Garden Bedroom has a secret bathroom opening to a private outdoor tub, shower, and Montauk daybed. Both daybeds are covered in Perennials fabric.
THE BREAKFASTS
Every morning we awoke to a dreamy spread with an array of fresh pastries, granola, and delicious coffee served in the prettiest pink mugs! The breakfast table view of course made the meal taste even more decadent.
A CELEBRATORY DINNER
For one of the evenings during our stay, I wanted to utilize the beautiful house and lean into festive Mexican elements.
I hired a chef to create a vibrant three-course dinner under the glow of the palm-shaped chandelier. The long, hand-carved dining table was set with hand-painted, personalized maracas, flower crowns, and twinkling candlelight … all the fun we needed for the live mariachi band that performed during dessert!
There’s not much to complain about when it comes to Casa Rosada, other than not being able to call it my own!
